Today is the ‘National Day for Play’, celebrated every year on the first Wednesday in August, which is the 2nd August 2023. It’s all about recognising children’s right to play and the important role it plays in their development.
This year’s theme is ‘playing on a shoestring – making every day an adventure’. We want to use this as an opportunity to encourage children and families to play at low or no cost, using different resources and their imagination. To mark the occasion, North Tyneside’s Children’s Council have developed their own ‘How to Play’ guide, full of ideas to help children play on a shoestring. DOWNLOAD HERE. On the 2nd August, we are inviting families across the borough to come out and play. There will be free fruit and play facilitators at the Rising Sun Country Park from 10am – 2pm, along with copies of the How to Play guide. We are encouraging everyone to get involved by putting on your own activities and promoting the day. However, you decide to mark the occasion, tag them on Facebook @NTParticipation with your photos and top tips for play, using the hashtag #PlayingonaShoestring and #Playday2023. If you have any activities on, please let us know so that we can advertise them as part of the campaign. We have attached the children’s council booklet and a poster and would appreciate your help in circulating these.
